Josh, first let me thank you for being the first to comment on my new blog - before it was officially unveiled, I might add. Re your comments. If your fresh idea success rate is improving, then I wouldn’t worry too much about whether you’re thinking like the old guard or not. From my personal perspective one of the things that often separates more experienced creative people from juniors is their ability to get the stuff through the system. That, too, takes creativity, for sure.

For years I've heard our ad agency's clients and our own upper management say they want new ideas, but when you show them something really fresh they're rarely open to it unless it conforms to their vision of how things should be done.

As I've become more senior my track record for getting new ideas through has improved. But, honestly, I don't know if it's because my growing credentials have helped my credibility or because I've just become better at heading off objections. There's even a part of me that thinks that maybe I'm meeting the creative frontier part way. I'm not as idealistic as I was in my youth and maybe I'm, I almost shutter to think, starting to think more like the old guard. I'm not totally convinced that this is wrong, because I am getting fresher work through.

I hope there's some advice and encouragement for young people in there somewhere. Good luck with the blog. Some good stuff here.
