I heard Fran Kelley author of The Breakaway Brand speak recently. He talked about Enterprise car rental company. While historically rental car companies made you come to them, Enterprise comes to you. "We'll pick you up." The company according to Kelley has had the greatest market share growth in the category in the past decade. That sure sounds like 180-degree thinking.

Nancy, don't sweat the potential sexism on the part of Alan Beck. He also wrote:

“A girl is Innocence playing in the mud, Beauty standing on its head, and Motherhood dragging a doll by the foot”

Re Unilever's marketing efforts, the fact that these quotes from the '50's seem so dated only supports their concept around kids play trends.

a quote from a 1950 Alan Beck essay with a endorsement from an insurance company that i am not so sure exits anymore:

the modern times disclaimer:
(and don't any females get on my case about this being about boys. those were the times, for gosh durn sake... and from what i see today not many girls or boys get that dirty. and I go to the park every weekday-with dirty feet, mind you)

yea the quote:

A boy is Truth with dirt on its face. Beauty with a cut on its finger, Wisdom with bubble gum in its hair, and the Hope of the future with a frog in its pocket.

boldness is my emphasis
