Now, if one's intention is merely to represent the visual sound of one hand clapping in a minimalist art gallery, then a blank canvas might be fine, but for the rest of us living in the real world, the canvas needs color. It's interesting to note that when typographers talk about color they mean the amount of tone the body copy gives the page in terms of filling the white space. It's this color that gives the page its visual weight and density, and it gives the layout its edge, visually. The same is true in life. For my page layout, in the latter part of 2006 and into 2007, I've: started a blog (which isn't in a fit enough state to be unleashed upon a largely unsuspecting world yet, but when it is, I'd appreciate your comments), I've also had a great deal of fun contributing to Ernie Schenck's blog, and I've contacted a leading creative to ask if he'll review my pathetic scribblings and offer advice on howI might become a better writer. The CPA in the gloomy office at the back of my head tells me not to bother with this last one because, as he puts it "your writing sucks", but I'm not going to listen. I'm currently working on some new ads to send off for comment. If one does not ask, act, or paint, one will never know, grow, and evolve, and one will always wonder what might have happened ... if only one had done this or that. It is January 9. The year is young. Opportunity awaits. Life is good, and getting better. Without some paint to daub upon it, one’s canvas, no matter what it is, remains white. And I think you're right, when you say, blogging is an opportunity to practice one creative habit. I've only been blogging for 2 months now and I still don't think I'm posting what I should/could be. I'm loving the challenge this feeling gives me to though and I'm looking forward to seeing what I'll be posting in 6months time. I'm really enjoying the journey I guess. I'd say it could be applied nicely to what Twyla is suggesting: "Great minds think a lot." I remember a great tagline for a software company from a few years ago. What, the dancer? That's always what they say. What, the dancer? Yeah, the dancer. What can a choreographer teach me about creativity, at least other than dance moves, that's what I know they're thinking. Let me tell you. The answer is, a lot. Tom's right. This is a terrific book.
