FlashFlood Brainstorming, a unique idea-generating technique developed by Tom Monahan, is based on two simple principles: more is better, and what we know hurts us. In each FlashFlood Brainstorming session our aim is to generate hundreds, if not thousands, of truly original ideas, ideas that go well beyond the obvious bounds of traditional thinking that limit our imagination.

Just give us your problem a week or two prior to the group work, Before & After will design a FlashFlood Brainstorming session in advance, then BANG! together we’ll throw more energy at the issue than you ever dreamed possible.

FlashFlood Brainstorming is a fast-paced session where we don’t edit a lot of our ideas. It’s also a very upbeat time when anything goes. We use proven idea-generating techniques and tools that we’ve developed over the years. We have methods to short circuit the apprehensions, self-consciousness and insecurities that limit many people. We also have methods that force people who may be too close to the situation to gain some perspective and not be attached to old concepts that so often lead them to the same old solutions.

Basically, we plant many, many seeds and delay finished pruning of the cultivated concepts until late in the session. This method is based on our belief that it’s easier to find 100 ideas than to find the one “perfect idea”. Routinely, we leave the session with hundreds of new concepts in raw form, and with dozens of more finely-honed ideas.

The FlashFlood Brainstorming method has been used to name companies, products and URLs, plus explore new product and service ideas and improvements, new sales tools, promotional ideas and competitive strategies, among many other things.
